GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PHYSICS
Call for Master’s and Doctoral applications in Physics at Federal University of Alagoas,
Maceió, Brazil
Applications are open for the selection to enroll in Master's and Doctorate (PhD) courses in the
Graduate Program in Physics at the Physics Institute of Federal University of Alagoas, located at
the stunning city of Maceió, Brazil. We offer 20 positions divided between the MSc and PhD
programs. Scholarships are distributed upon availability based on the applicant score as well as
affirmative quotas.
WHO CAN APPLY?
● MSc: Candidates must hold a bachelor degree in Physics or related areas;
● PhD: Candidates must hold a MSc degree in Physics or related areas;
● Candidates who are about to complete the undergraduate or Master courses may enroll,
provided that their completion date is before the start of the program. In these cases, a
diploma may be provisionally replaced by an official statement issued by the applicant’s
institution, valid for up to six months from its issue date, after which the diploma must be
submitted.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Candidates must sign up via our academic server (click here) by choosing MESTRADO (MSc)
or DOUTORADO (PhD) EM FÍSICA ACADÊMICA - Edital PPGF/CPG-PROPEP/UFAL n.º02/2026
- FÍSICA, and attach the following documents:
1) Registration form (Annex 1);
2) Brazilians: Valid ID; Foreigners: Passport or National Registry of Foreigners (issued
in Brazil, for residents);
3) Undergrad diploma and Master’s diploma (both required when applying for a PhD),
along with the corresponding academic transcripts;
4) CV completed on the LATTES platform (http://lattes.cnpq.br/), along with scanned
certificates; For international applicants, other CV platforms, such as Europass, will
be accepted, provided they contain at least: basic personal data, academic
background, professional and academic experience (if applied), and academic
production (if applied);
5) Scoring sheet (Annex 4), filled by the candidate based on their academic transcripts
and CV;
6) Statement of Purpose (2 pages maximum) describing the applicant’s previous
research experience, the type of research they intend to develop, and how it fits
within our graduate program. The text must be clear, concise, and without excessive
jargon. It must also be realistic and aligned with the applicant’s academic

FURTHER INFORMATION

● The selection committee will score academic transcripts, CV, and statement of purpose.
Letters of recommendation are not mandatory but applicants must provide reference
contacts in the main application form;
● Disclaimer #1 (for international students): the presentation of a student visa is required.
Applicants holding a student visa are not required to present revalidated diplomas. For
applicants with a residence permit/permanent visa who hold a diploma issued by a foreign
institution, proof of diploma revalidation in Brazil is required. Only in this case must the
applicant present proof that the revalidation process has been initiated at a Brazilian
institution, in accordance with Law No. 9.394/96 (LDB), as well as Resolutions No. 01/2001,
01/2002, and 02/2005 of the National Council of Education (CNE). The applicant will have
12 (twelve) months from the date of enrollment to submit proof of the diploma revalidation
request. Failure to comply with this deadline may result in cancellation of enrollment.
